Dear Children,
Have you ever wondered how you should pray? Many times, we simply copy how our Christian parents or Sunday school teachers pray, without really thinking about it. Sometimes, we may not even understand what they are saying.
But there is someone who can truly teach us how to pray—the best teacher the world has ever known.
We read in Luke 11:1, And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Here, one of Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray. Even though they had already learned from John the Baptizer, they knew that Jesus is perfect. Because He is perfect, His way of praying is the best and most pleasing to God.
In the same way, even though we learn to pray from our parents and teachers, we should look to the Lord Jesus to learn the best way to pray.
Even though Jesus is not physically with us today, He has not left us alone. He has given us His Word, the Bible, to teach us. Prayer is not just talking to God—it is also like an offering to Him (Psalm 141:2). And just like any offering, we should desire to give what is pleasing to God.
So let us read God’s Word diligently to learn how to pray in the right way. And let us also ask the Holy Spirit to help us, because He guides us in our prayers (Romans 8:26).
